today the l.a. times ran a very entertaining and fun column one feature on star trek fan films, focusing on the hidden frontier series made out of pasadena but also talking about new voyages, the more high-tech one from back east that has even featured original trek actors george takei and walter koenig.

i wrote about this phenomenon in a "subbacultcha" column in march of last year. i was fascinated when my friend greg told me about these films and gave me some DVDs to watch. but i have to say i never thought it would interest the mainstream.
