papa ooh mow mow

a-well-ahh, everybody's heard about the "surge"
"surge" "surge" "surge"
"surge" is the word ... ah yeah the "surge" "surge" "surge"
"surge" is the word
uh huh th' "surge" "surge" "surge" is the word ...
uh-well-ah don't you know about the "surge"?
everybody knows that the "surge" is the word ... .

papa ooo mow mow, folks in the mainstream media! don't be a surfin' bird, pickin' up little bits and pieces o' stuff from here and there all magpie-like, and unwittingly (we hope) parroting the bush administration's propagandistic linguistic! think about the lines being fed to you. and don't be manipulated. after all, the perception of the nation is at stake. the words you repeat will embed themselves in our brains. and it's the little things, ooo mah soul, that do mean a lot.

that is to say, when reporting in any way on the consequences or circumstances of the president's recent assigning of additional troops to iraq, don't forget the quotations marks when using the CINC's pet word: "surge." think about it: if this word were not being bandied about by the leader of the free world and his henchpersons, would it ever even occur to you to use it as descriptor for this situation? i doubt it.

so, c'mon and sing it with me now:

a-well-ahh, everybody's heard about the "surge"
"surge" "surge" "surge"
"surge" is the word ... ah yeah the "surge" "surge" "surge"
"surge" is the word
uh huh th' "surge" "surge" "surge" is the word ...
uh-well-ah don't you know about the "surge"?
everybody's talkin' 'bout the "surge" is the word ...
